Never Underestimate What God Can Do

A Letter from Wendy Burkett

As we continue to climb out of this difficult season, one thing is certain; we will never be the same. Some of us have felt the foundations of America shaken to the core. We’ve seen ungratefulness take over and have seen issues with the “hearts” of many growing cold. It is easy to focus on these potential downsides and retreat in fear and anxiety. Psalm 91 is a profound call to trust in the Lord, even in the midst of danger and pandemics. He will urge us forward when it is safe to take the next step. My life verse has been Psalm 25:4-5 – to trust that He will teach and direct my path, trust His timing, and wait patiently on Him. To simply “pause”. We go to the Lord first in planning and knowing the Lord’s will. Moving ahead without God is the sin of pride; moving ahead without acknowledging one’s limits or the sovereignty of God amounts to boasting.

We can look upon these times as challenges or opportunities, depending on our perspective.  With Operation Christmas Child and our local Area Team, we have seen challenges and opportunities. We were challenged by not being able to meet in person, not being able to reach out to churches and community groups, not having any outreach events… and even now as we are able to connect with more churches and community groups, we see that the harvest is great, however the workers are few.  So… we are spending this time in intercessory prayer, not only for each other (team members), but also for open doors and finding opportunities to share about Operation Christmas Child.  The opportunity is about waiting on the Lord, going to prayer, and seeing what God will do with this ministry – HIS Ministry.  “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.” (Eph 3:20)

We thank the Lord for the challenges and opportunities. “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” – Corrie ten Boom

We will continue to encourage others to pack just one more shoebox – which is one more child to hear about the Gospel. It is about Evangelism, Discipleship, and Multiplication, bringing the Gospel to the ends of the earth. It is about the Great Commission. It is about One More Child and that’s an Opportunity that we all get to take part in by God’s Grace.
